"Rare has developed numerous titles alongside Microsoft and been largely behind the big push for Kinect on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One, however reports indicate that the developer has been hit with layoffs of several of its employees following some the recent Kinect-related news of the past few weeks.
"Details show that “around 16″ employees have been let go from the studio following the weak launch and reception for the studio’s Kinect Sports Rivals, which released last month, and with the news last weeks that Kinect would be de-bundled from Xbox One and become optional, a big blow to the company’s strategy of developing for the console.
"In a statement issued to Eurogamer, Microsoft provided the following details on the restructuring within Rare...
“At Xbox, our goal is to constantly create new fun, social and interactive entertainment experiences. As part of Rare’s commitment to this goal, we have made a decision to change our development process and methodology at Rare to best support our future projects, this has led to us reviewing the skills and the makeup of our development teams in our business.
“Rare continues to invest in our people and future projects.”
