Sony layoffs hit Driveclub, Killzone, and The Playroom developers**This is not a thread to bash Sony, but meant to simply inform and discuss... please keep it civil. From the article:Sony has laid off an undisclosed amount of staff at three of its UK developers: Evolution Studios, Guerrilla Cambridge, and SCE London Studio. VideoGamer reported that "numerous" people from each studio have been let go. Direct Link: Original Article on Gamespot

Personally, I dont find it too surprising. After recently laying off people from their God of War studio (santa monica?). The games division of Sony is doing "ok" but Sony as a whole is suffering financially right now. Pretty standard practice among large companies: Squeeze your profitable divisions to offset the bleeding in other divisions.
This is not good news for PS4 fans. If it was just one studio, it wouldnt make you think too much. This is 4 studios now, within just a few weeks. Not to mention a few notable devs/artists/writers leaving of their own free will. I think the writing was on the wall, and they chose to leave prior to some of this going down. Just speculation on my part though, we may never really know.
This is the benefit that Microsoft has. MS as a whole entity is very healthy financially. They can take a few more risks and invest into their first party offerings (new studios, beefing up existing ones) and that is exactly what their doing.
Regardless of my feelings for Sony, it is sad to see people lose their jobs anywhere. Hopefully many of them find new jobs with other development studios. Maybe even some will land with Microsoft.

And that’s why the whole free games was a good idea at first, but now with triple a titles thrown into the mix not so much. I know of a few of people that haven’t bought a single game for their console, but have quite a few of them thanks to ps+. Btw I really wonder about DC right now, it really looks as some have said. That the delays are a sign of something bigger/worse :/ I hope this guys and gals get hired ASAP ... it’s your move MS.

Sad to see, but thats life. Sony needs to take actions to turn around otherwise the company will go bankrupt very soon or have to sell more company divisions. I still believe if Sony is not able to turnaround we will see a new owner of the Playstation brand very soon. I would think of some candidates that are not obvious for all of us: Lenovo or Samsung.

Lenovo might be a reach, but i could see Samsung. They have their hands in quite a few things. If Samsung actually acquired the Playstation brand, i might go out and buy one right now. As a company, i have no ill-will towards them. Hopefully whatever company does pickup playstation (if it happens at all) they don't also acquire the snobby, arrogant attitude that currently seems to run through the execs. Personally i dont think Samsung would allow anyone affiliated with them to take cheap potshots at MS.
