Just curious as to what you guys prefer... I can understand party chat for games like Forza and Titanfall.. but I think I'd prefer game chat for games like The Division and Evolve where the chat adds to the immersion and if the game world wants to cut communication for immersion, then i'd rather not ruin the immersion by having the on-going party chat.
I can imagine requesting that my friends hop on game chat, rather than party chat, when games like Evolve come out so that we don't break immersion. Just something that has crossed my mind recently.

Hmmm, interesting topic. A party option to have game chat on (toggle party/game but stay in party)...where you can stay with your friends but you have chat open to entire group for Titanfall if you don't have a 6 person party. Then if you get the psycho kid screaming in the mic, or playing loud music in background, you can leave as a group and try again.
I will select depends on game for this reason. Like you said for Evolve or L4D you need that 4 person communication even if you don't always have a 4 person party.

Depends on game for me. One great thing about the time before party chat was how many cool people and friends you made. Now its hard to meet any new Xbox friends in games because everyone is in parties. Granted you also encountered way more jerks, but it was an offsetting thing. I have friends from the original gears that I still talk to.

FYI:
Being in a party doesn't mean you have to be in the party chat... by toggling party chat off, you automatically join the game chat (lobby chat). Give this a try if you guys want to chat with your friends, but also want to chat with strangers in a lobby. Just make sure that everyone from the party switches to game chat so that he/she isn't left in the party chat alone talking to themselves.
The issue is that most people don't know about this feature or ability, so they think party chat is the only way to talk to people or playing solo is the only way to talk to strangers. I think Microsoft was trying to address everyone's play style by giving us the ability to choose game chat or party chat, but like with a lot of things, this is another feature that hasn't been well explained to the common gamer.
Chano, next time we play together and you want to hit up the lobby chat, we'll go ahead and switch over together and that way we'll still be able to talk to each other, but not be cuttoff from the lobby. The hurdle will be how many other gamers know about switching to game chat as well.
That being said, when it comes to games like Titanfall, I talk a lot of shit, unknowingly sometimes, and perhaps would like my competitive nature kept isolated to just my friends on my team, lol.

Depends on game. Its better in game chat in games that require teamwork. Party Chat is fine if you can fill the game or squad

Thank you. Cabin, I was unaware that was a option! That helps.

Game dependent, in Dark Souls you only can use game chat or personal chat. In Forza 5 it depends if I want to talk to the lobby or to my group of people.
